Meet Samantha Gallacher: Miami Mama and Founder of Art & Loom

What do you do and what led you to this career?
I studied Interior Design and have always had a love for interior construction. After working in the field for a few years I realized that to really make a mark on a space you need to customize not only what you buy, but the pieces themselves. I partially switched careers to product design and worked for West Elm as a rug and textile designer. Eventually I broke off on my own and created my own rug line, Art & Loom.
What is the name and age of your little one?
Lucas, who is 8 years old, and Jonah, who is 6 years old.
What has been your biggest career achievement thus far?
This past year was an exciting one. I was able to show my wall hangings and rugs in a few exhibits at Miami's Art Basel. That said, just seeing designers all over the world post images of my rugs in their spaces feels to me like a pretty great achievement. On the interior side, my firm broke into the retail arena and we were able to design a very chic and glamorous tailor shop in the Miami Design District.
What is the most rewarding aspect of being a mother?
Watching the way my son's minds work. They come up with some of the craziest ideas and we have no idea where they came from.
And what is the most challenging?
By far the most challenging thing is trying be there for every aspect of their lives while trying to run a business at the same time.
What is your best advice for someone new to your industry?
Don't be intimidated by already established designers, there is a place for everyone.
What is your best advice for a new mother?
Try and have fun with it and don't overthink every parental decision
What's next for you? Do you have an exciting projects coming up?
We will be launching some new exciting collaboration rug collections with super talented designers and artists (can't say names yet). On the interiors front, we are working with some world renowned architects on ground up and full construction projects. Also hoping to show the the interiors world some of our upcoming hospitality projects.
