You could say that Dianna Barton began her business organically. Her San Diego-based company Plum + Sparrow was born after she was gifted a hand-woven basket for her baby girl, the youngest of her four children. The simple beauty of it struck her, as did the concept that these items were time-honored traditional crafts, created in a method that had been passed down for generations. Barton knew many women that had both a desire for this aesthetic — both for baby care and beyond — and an interest in helping other communities, so she began working with a village in Africa where she established a fair trade business in which Plum + Sparrow receives expertly crafted baskets and accessories, and the community earns funding for school supplies, health care, and more. Additionally, the brand occasionally works with non-profits like Every Mother Counts and Savvy Giving By Design to further give back.

In terms of goods, Plum + Sparrow is likely best known for its Moses Baskets, which come with a (hypo allergenic and water resistant) mattress and sheet, but the lifestyle brand also offers changing baskets, bike baskets, market baskets, palm shopping totes, mudcloth swaddle blankets and more ranging from $20 to $185. Some of the most stylish mamas all over have been loving these products for toting their babes, their farmer's market bounty, their picnic essentials, and beyond because they're just as fashionable as they are functional. A company that gives us gorgeous, well-made wares and benefits communities in need? We'd call that a win-win-win.
