“You don't have to be an expert, you just have to be a few steps ahead of those you serve.”

What do you do and what led you to this career?

I am a Doula and Social Media Director in Los Angeles and have been in the fashion industry for almost 18 years! I have been a Buyer with a big company, owned a vintage shop, done product development and trend forecasting, and started my own clothing company. After I had my daughter, I was ready to stay home more, and I had also fell in love with birth and the magic behind it. I started doing Doula work, and realized there was a whole community I could be a part of. I also knew I was an entrepreneur and that my Doula business would include apparel and jewelry for women like me. At the same time I started taking on Instagram clients. It was a natural fit, making a feed come to life was very similar to creating mood boards and a "vibe" for companies. Being the SMD at @143worldwide means I get to come up with concepts, work on merchandise we sell, conceptualize photoshoots, videos, and more. It’s tons of fun. It also gives me the freedom to work from home. I just love to create, whether it’s a new company idea, an e-packet for my Doula website, an outfit that makes me feel good...my mind is always thinking "what can I do next".

What are the names and ages of your children?

Isabella, who is 4 years old, and one on the way!

What has been your biggest career achievement thus far?

Creating a clothing business for parents with my husband, and then selling that business successfully! We worked hard for a few years and then wanted to focus on other things. We were thrilled when the company was bought!

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a mother?

Seeing my daughter treat others with love and being her amazing, confident self at the same time.

And what is the most challenging?

No sleep for MANY years and finding "me" time.

What is your best advice for someone new to your industry?

You don't have to be an expert, you just have to be a few steps ahead of those you serve. It’s okay to jump in and go after something with a full heart. That is how life works itself out. Most likely there will be no perfect moment, but be brave.

What is your best advice for a new mother?

Make a "Joy List" that you put on your fridge. It should be a big 'ole list of ALL things that make you happy or remind you of "yourself". Examples are your favorite Starbucks, magazines you love, a facial, warm socks, dark chocolate, etc. Have it up for your partner (or YOU) to reference when motherhood is overwhelming you and you need that little something to get through the day.

What's next for you? Do you have any exciting projects coming up?

Back to the social media side, 143 is throwing a huge RNB festival in November at the Row DTLA called 143 THX. We are working hard to make it an amazing night, with tons of activations and performers. It’s a lot of work but super exciting!
